We are living history in real time. The events that have transpired in the US in the midst of this global pandemic have been gut-wrenching, eye-opening and mind-blowing. I keep returning to these three statements:
- I am so sorry.
- I am listening.
- I am learning.
I keep looking at the role model I have chosen follow for leadership cues: Jesus. He spent a lot of time with people. He asked a lot of questions and listened for the honest responses. He felt the pain of those who suffered. Jesus showed us the Way to be with people.
These words I hand-lettered from a tea bag tab I had stuck in my Bible. I’ve had these on my wall since the beginning of COVID-19 when the tea bag tab fell out of my Bible. I don’t remember when I stuck it in the pages; I don’t remember the tea. The company didn’t even put its name on the other side of the tab. What I do remember is how it spoke to me of the passage in Proverbs 1
To know wisdom and instruction, to discern the sayings of understanding, to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity; to give prudence to the naive, to the youth knowledge and discretion, A wise person will hear and increase in learning, and a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel…
It is time for wisdom.
May I share wise counselors?

I have many more teachers to share; voices I am listening to and learning from. All in order to gain wisdom. You see, this racial injustice is not a political issue. It is a heart issue. Scripture teaches us we are to become like Jesus as we follow Him. Implied in the word becoming is the process of change. We cannot become like Jesus and stay the way we are now. We must change the way we think, speak and act. We need to listen, to learn, to become wise. Like Jesus.
