Why is Listening to Music Helpful to Connect to Your Emotions?

I love learning how humans learn. I was fascinated with the idea when I began my collegiate career in an era when women were not generally encouraged to pursue hard sciences. It’s a long story but math and I were never given opportunity to succeed in an intimate relationship. *sigh*

Fast forward to neuro-biology and scientific studies proving earlier theories about how the brain works. We now can see the brain light up when smell is introduced and memory is stimulated. This research has included sound.

Why do I tell you this? Our brains are so powerful and retain both pleasant and bad memories which can be accessed through our senses. And why is that important? Because as each of us wants to change and grow, sometimes we need to re-visit memories in order to move forward. Go back to grow forward.

This time you are making space for is a way of giving permission to take care of yourself or practice self-care. This is never wasted time.

I’ve created a playlist of 12 of my favorite songs that help me connect to my heart/emotions when I need to go deeper into soul work. I’ve made the list shareable and the link is below.

This is an invitation as all these posts are; an invitation to make time to listen both to your heart as well as the music. You may already have some favorites that help you in this way. Please share the titles with us either through the socials or in our private Facebook group.

Action step: listen to one or more of the songs; jot down meaningful lyrics and journal about why they feel important.
